Good hot pot.
Reviewed by: Mimi N. on: 10/23/2013 6:30:48 AM
Hot pot buffet is the reason to come here! Very good, and the meat/vegetables aren't of the lowest quality as one would think. They have really good sized seafood pieces, but don't expect the best service. Don't get me wrong, the staff is EXTREMELY friendly, but you'll just have to be proactive in raising your hand and asking for whatever you need. Once you do, they're always quick to deliver.

This joint is an American Chinese restaurant with a somewhat authentic style hotpot service. They have been around as long as I have been living in Utah. They can be access conveniently thru Parleys Way to 2100S. The restaurant is not very big, and the building is quite old, but has enough room to fit a small party. Their service is what you would expect from an Asian place. For regular menu items, you can expect standard overly sweeten Chinese food that leaves a terrible aftertaste. Only reason to visit here is for their AYCE Chinese Hotpot service. The selections were limited though as they only have the basic ingredients to choice from such as beef, cabbage, beef/fish balls, mussels, shrimp, etc. Meat quality was poor... poorer than the ones you pick out randomly from grocery store. The veggies seem a bit old and I could see a tainted yellowness on them. The seafood was not very good either. In short, Hunan Garden is a Chinese restaurant with mediocre hotpot service and loathsome menu items. Nevertheless, if you live nearby and do not want to deal with mess at home, I can see them being a compromise option.

The hubs and I are becoming regulars here! We did the hot pot most recently and it was pretty good! We usually do it at home but sometimes get lazy. We'd do it again in the future. The HOT POT: Mmmmm...good. If you like loads of meat boiling in a pot of goodness, this is it. There aren't many places in town that offer hot pot. Among those that do, this place is likely among the best. The beef with peas is also pretty good and is a favorite of ours. The staff is very friendly and definitely a step above most Chinese restaurants. They're pretty good at remembering faces and great you with a smile.

This is the third place in Utah that I've tried hot pot...and I must say I loved it! I think the idea of doing an all-you-can-eat hot pot is a great idea because the bill can rack up pretty fast when you have a lot of hungry friends dining with you.I came in with a party of 7 on Memorial Day and the Asian woman who greeted us was very adorable. She explained their hot pot to us and the only thing I don't understand is we can't specify which items we want with our hot pot...meaning that they bring you pre-designated plates and whatever you don't want to eat, you'll just have to leave it behind. I don't like to waste food so I wasn't too thrilled about this. The taste and quality of the food was very good! The broth of the hot pot was very bland as we ordered the non-spicy kind. But add some chili oil...and flavor is created immediately. Their items are very fresh and you can tell they know what they're doing because they give you all of the appropriate utensils and tools to properly serve and cook hot pot. Whenever we wanted more orders of a certain item, we would just tell our waitress and she would bring it out to us.Please note though I have not tried anything else on their menu but I did observe a man sitting next to us who ordered an appetizer combo that was presented beautifully. I'm excited to come back here...even if it'll only be for the hot pot!

Good place for HOT POT!!!! The meats usually are chicken and beef, but you can call ahead and ask whether they have pork that day. They give you fresh shrimp and some seafood as well.Service was somewhat slow when they are busy, but it's worth waiting to get some more yummy food!
